Get set for the hottest winter on record: with the bulk of tickets already sold since going onsale last month, Lost Map are delighted to announce that the headliner for Kid Canaveral's annual seasonal all-dayer Xmas Baubles this year, in its fifth instalment, will be the incredible Ibibio Sound Machine. We're massive fans of the London based band's African highlife, Afro-beat, gospel, electronica, funk and psychedelia inspired self-titled debut album, and we jumped at the opportunity to have them headline the biggest pre-Christmas independent music bonanza in Scotland, which will be back bigger than ever on Saturday, December 13, from 2pm until midnight, at the beautiful Portobello Town Hall down by the seaside in Portobello, Edinburgh. Tickets remain onsale - but going fast - at the Lost Map webshop.

An eight-piece led by British-Nigerian singer Eno Williams - whose songs are based around folk stories from south-east Nigeria - Ibibio Sound Machine fuse West-African funk and disco and modern post-punk and electro traditions to create a sound that's fresh and infectious and utterly, irresistibly danceable. Released on the excellent Soundway label earlier this year, their debut album received glowing reviews from the likes of The Guardian and The Quietus, and has barely been off our stereos. One listen to the explosive 'Let's Dance (Yak Inek Unek)' and you'll be hooked too. They're sure to make for a party-starting live experience like no other - see their appearance on Later... With Jools Holland earlier this year for proof.
Ibibio Sound Machine join Scottish Album of the Year Award-nominated hosts Kid Canaveral and fellow Lost Mappers Randolph's Leap as the first artists revealed for this year's Baubles. As is customary, we're staggering announcements of the full line-up across several weeks, so you'll have to stay tuned both to our mailing list and at lostmap.com to keep track of who else is playing this year's premier festive soiree. We're confident that Baubles V is going to be the busiest, funnest, most memorable and - thanks not least to Ibibio - danciest Baubles of them all.
For a reminder of how amazing last year's Xmas Baubles was, as headlined by the one and only Edwyn Collins, read ✮✮✮✮ reviews in The Independent and The Scotsman newspapers, then watch Kid Canaveral's video for their epic track 'A Compromise' which was filmed at a very similar venue in Partick Burgh Hall.
