As an occasional change of pace from furious unrequited sexting Vernon Kay-style, Kid Canaveral like to share details of their new album with an emoji-heart obsessed friend ️️️️️. Or so we are able to deduce from this rather schnazzy animated teaser video (don't worry, it's entirely SFW) by artist and creative man extraordinaireDavid Galletly, introducing the Kids' forthcoming third set Faulty Inner Dialogue, which is slated for release on July 29, 2016 via Lost Map Records and will be celebrated with a launch show at Summerhall, Edinburgh on Saturday, July 30. In the sonic equivalent of "showing a bit of thigh", they have also just made available to stream and share the first track from said album, the rather splendid 'First We Take Dumbarton', which is available NOW from all digital channels, and also as the latest edition in our PostMap postcard series ...
Marking the band's first new music since expanding to a five-piece with the recruitment of electro-laptop-synth boffin man Michael Craig, and going back further than that since their SAY Award-nominated second album Now That You Are A Dancer, 'First We Take Dumbarton' is a galloping, glitchy, harmonic thing with a breezy façade that masks an acidic cynicism about the over-saturation of media in our lives and the pervasive profit-before-people dogma that is being packaged as “in our best interests”. We're not really sure what that means either - we just wrote it in the press release to try and sound clever - but trust us when we tell you it's really a very good song indeed and well worth a listen, not to mention sexier than Vernon Kay's sexiest sext.
