Lost Map are excited to support Fire Records in their deluxe double-vinyl reissue of Pictish Trail's critically-acclaimed third album Future Echoes, available from select stores for Record Store Day, April 21.
Originally released in September 2016 on Lost Map, Future Echoes earned rapturous reviews from MOJO, Uncut, Clash, The Quietus, The Arts Desk and The Scotsman among others, and won the public vote for Scottish Album Of The Year Award 2017. This new, expanded double-disc version features exclusive bonus material including stripped-down Winter Rewind Acid Reflux remixes of ‘After Life’, ‘Lionhead’ and ‘Dead Connection’ plus a White Poppy remix of ‘Until Now’ and live versions of ‘Half Life’, ‘Far Gone (Don’t Leave)’, ‘Strange Sun’ and ‘Brow Beaten’.
Here are some words from Pictish Trail, himself ...
"Future Echoes started life on Lost Map as a limited edition vinyl and CD pressing, with initial runs selling out pretty quick. The album took such a long time to make, and i’m really proud of where it’s taken us over the past 18 months - so, AYE, totally buzzing that the good people of Fire Records are giving it a wider release, as a deluxe edition on two thick slabs of super-splodgy multi-coloured vinyl.
"The second LP is a bonus disc, the first side of which contains stripped-back reinterpretations of Future Echoes, recorded with my friend Suse Bear, last year. I’ve dubbed these versions ‘Winter Rewind Acid Reflux’, mostly for confusion’s sake. There’s also an interstellar remix of the song ‘Until Now’ by White Poppy, a Canadian lo-fi/ambient musician, whose album Natural Phenomena has been an obsession of mine for the past 3 years, and a big influence on Future Echoes. I was over the moon when she agreed to do the remix, and it sounds so beautiful, and suitably cosmic.
"When you flip over to the D-side, be sure to turn up to full volume, as these are live recordings of the full band from the illustrious Kelvingrove Bandstand in Glasgow, as well as a track we recorded in session for BBC radio - a rocked-up reworking of the Silver Columns electro-disco number, ‘Brow Beaten’."
To celebrate the release, Pictish Trail will be performing a rare solo show at the Amersham Arms in London for Record Store Day, ahead of a summer of festivals, including Green Man, Folk Forest, Deer Shed and Skye Live.
