PRE-ORDER PICTISH TRAIL'S NEW ALBUM THUMB WORLD
RELEASED FEBRUARY 21, 2020:
fire-records.lnk.to/PT_ThumbWorld
Save perhaps for seminal action movie classic Navy Seals (1990) and that time when he was spotted with a prostitute in a 24-hour shop in Glasgow buying biscuits and crack-smoking paraphernalia (1997), actor Charlie Sheen's finest moment is without a doubt his cameo in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986). Specifically the bit when Ferris's sister angrily suggests to him "why don't you put your thumb up your butt?" and Sheen casually extends a ponderous thumb, as if to wordlessly reply, " good suggestion, may give it a go."
Now, we're not about to imply that Pictish Trail's Thumb World was conceived in quite such a way – after all, our Johnny never sticks anything even so innocent as a fat digit up an orifice without it first being safely sheathed. But certainly his excellent new album was born of a similar spirit and energy of humorous nonchalance, mild perversion and zest for life and drugs and biscuits (mainly biscuits) as Sheen's. See for yourself, when Johnny takes the whole thing "on the road" next year, on his biggest ever headline tour. In March and April 2020, our Pictish will rock the boabie clean off of towns and cities from Birmingham to Hebden Bridge, Newcastle and Dundee, dropping classics past and future as casually as Charlie Sheen once dropped a grand in Easterhouse on a bag of dubious white powder. Don't like the sound of that? Then why don't you put your thumb up your butt?

MEET CLÉMENTINE MARCH
DEBUT ALBUM LE CONTINENT COMING JANUARY 2020
The Lost Map family has grown once again with the birth of our beautiful daughter Clémentine March. Who confusingly is not a baby but in fact a fully-grown adult, and even more confusingly, is also French. There may have been a mix-up at the hospital but whatever, we're keeping her!
Clémentine is a London-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whom you may recognise from her work playing live (mainly on bass) with several other artists in the Lost Map-o-sphere including Rozi Plain, Alabaster dePlume, Bamboo, Bas Jan and loads of others. We'll be releasing her eclectic, charming and truly cosmopolitan debut album Le Continent in January 2020. It’s preceded by the release of the title track as a PostMap postcard single this month, which Clémentine describes as “a personal account of a traveller who is trying to find her way everywhere in the world… melted with that strange spirit of the times we’re living." Phil MFU from the band Vanishing Twin contributes an organ part and an improvised freakout section in the middle of the song – while Cathy Lucas, also of Vanishing Twin, contributes a remix of ‘Le Continent’ exclusive to the postcard release. Also featured exclusively on the postcard is a cover of ‘Rêve Rêve Rêve’, a 1943 Tin Pan Alley standard by Johnny Mercer, re-written with personalised French lyrics.
Clémentine characterises herself as “an alt-rock teenager from the 90s,” yet one who studied classical guitar from a young age, and followed her love of Vila Lobos, Caetano Veloso and more to Brazil for two years in her twenties, where she became immersed in choro, samba and traditional Brazilian genres. Sung in four languages – English, French, Portuguese and Spanish – and influenced by everything from Nirvana to Milton Nascimento, Clémentine’s melodically idiosyncratic and joyfully wild music knows no borders. Tres bien! (Translation: ).

KID CANAVERAL'S XMAS BAUBLES X: SELT OOT!
That's right: SELT, OOT (translation: sold out). With the announcement of just three bands so far – including Embra indie-pop cult heroes Ballboy making a triumphant Baubles return, plus Irish singer-songwriter Junior Brother and our very own Clémentine March (who you've just met) – tickets have flown out the door faster than Tory campaign literature flies down the toilet. Thanks, guys! If you missed out then don't despair – there's another Lost Map-related seasonal extravaganza to look forward to...

GRASSCOURT: 'SENSE TO ME'
|
|
NOVEMBER POSTMAP CLUB:
(HELLO) CLÉMENTINE MARCH (FAREWELL) GRASSCOURT
Such is the strict revolving door policy here at Lost Map that no sooner has Clémentine March joined the label roster than we have killed Grasscourt dead and buried them under the patio. Just kidding! We actually threw the bodies in the sea. STILL JUST KIDDING! They are however bidding us farewell, sadly (and non-violently). With the release of the Connect Part III EP, as part of this month's PostMap Club subscription service – watch the video for 'Sense To Me' above – Stroud's finest 360° makers of kaleidoscopic electro-acoustic audio-visual wonderment have declared the project "complete", and thus are away to put their feet up and live forever and ever more off of the vast riches and rewards their involvement with Lost Map has brought them. Or at least as long as a Spar own-brand packet of bourbon creams will last.
“The Connect Part III EP marks the end of the Grasscourt journey," says Matt. "What started life as a chance encounter and the briefest idea of a collaboration, has ended life as a collection of work that we are both extremely proud of, with this final part of the puzzle enabling us to bow out on a high." We're not crying, you're crying.
“Working with Matt on all things Grasscourt – the Connect EPs, the videos that we made (sometimes with budgets of upwards of £47!) and the live shows that we played – are a source of immense pride for me," adds Tom. "HUGE thanks to Lost Map for putting out the EP’s and all their support and encouragement.” Okay fine we are crying.
Farewell to the very fine Grasscourt! To whom we shall now pay stirring tribute... with a regular reminder of the full benefits of being in the Post Map Club:
