PICTISH TRAIL'S NEW ALBUM IS OUT NOW!
+ ON TOUR (AT LAST)
|
|
When we told you that Pictish Trail has a lot of Great Celebrity Mates ™, we weren't lying. Okay so we were lying that time when we said he used to go kayaking with Prince. And when we said he used to wrestle with Glen Michael from Glen Michael's Cartoon Cavalcade. But the one about Cat Power once giving him £20 when he was on acid, that one's verifiably true (have witnesses). And also verifiably true is the one about comedian James Acaster starring in his latest music video (have music video).
In this video, Acaster – or as we like to call him, simply "James" – stars as the host of Piping Hot Releases, which seems to be some kind of YouTube music review type program, featuring special guest Pictish Trail. They talk for a bit, then Johnny starts singing his song 'It Came Back' while wandering about his house wearing a series of freakish, oversized papier-mâché heads (not sure why). James sort of joins in with the performance (not sure why either). Johnny does the dishes at one point. There's another funny talky bit after the song, and then it ends. 10/10 would recommend.
In other Pictish Trail news HIS CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED™ NEW ALBUM ISLAND FAMILY IS OUT NOW ( please listen/buy) and HE'S FINALLY GOING ON TOUR ( please come). Yes, the tour they (haters) said would never happen, is at last happening, two years later. Savage Mansion will be joining Pictish on the road as planned, and the whole gang will be going buck wild everywhere from Guildford to Hebden Bridge, Chester and even Dundee. If you come to shows you can buy copies of both Island Family and of Savage Mansion's new album Golden Mountain Here I Come. We can't promise you'll meet any of Johnny's Great Celebrity Mates ™, but you may meet Johnny, who was recently in the newspaper and will this Saturday be on the radio.

JANUARY POSTMAP CLUB FEAT. SUSAN BEAR AND ALEXIA AVINA
|
|
The brand-new solo single by queer bedroom pop producer Susan Bear (FKA Good Dog), ‘M6’ is a hazy lo-fi pop gem about "long drives spent reflecting on bad decisions made in the past". We can relate to this one hard as we reflect on bad decisions made in the past at motorway services Burger Kings up and down the M6 including Burton-in-Kendal, Charnock Richard, Corley, Hilton Park, Keele, Knutsford, Lancaster, Rugby, Southwaite, Stafford northbound and more. Available as a PostMap postcard single and via digital services now, 'M6' is the first taste of Suse’s forthcoming second solo album Alter, which will be released on June 10, 2022 on limited-edition vinyl and digital platforms. A much respected and sought-after stalwart of the Scottish music scene and a lynchpin of Lost Map, you may recognise Suse from her work variously with artists including Tuff Love, Pictish Trail and Martha Ffion, as well as The Pastels, Tracyanne & Danny, Malcolm Middleton, Poster Paints and more.
The stunning new single from New York-based American dreampop singer-songwriter Alexia Avina, ‘Human’ is an instantly engrossing hit of haunting melodicism and elegant restraint all about “getting entangled with your own ego in the yearning for love". While we can't relate so hard to this one, we did once get hopelessly entangled with our own seatbelt in the yearning for a new delicious plant-based Katsu Chilli Whopper™ at Burger King Newport Pagnell services (M1). Available to stream and share now as well as released as part of the PostMap Club in March, ‘Human’ is the second track to be shared from Alexia's forthcoming new album A Little Older, which will be released on April 29, 2022 on limited-edition CD and digital platforms.
Also included in the March PostMap Club selection:
- Gordon McIntyre: 'Tiny Marks' – Heartfelt first track from Ballboy singer-songwriter Gordon's forthcoming solo album of DIY pop. More news from Gordon coming soon!
