LOST MAP'S CHRISTMAS AND
HALLOWEEN SPECIALS
|
|
It's the two scariest occasions of the year and we've got parties planned for both. Halloween, when night creatures call and the dead start to walk in their masquerade. And Christmas, when a big creepy stranger climbs down the chimney, and we all have to act like we enjoy spending time with our families. Chilling
Join us, on Saturday, October 28 at Platform arts centre in the bloodcurdling Glasgow suburb of Easterhouse for the Lost Map X PRAH Hallowe’en All Dayer – an afternoon and evening of wild, genre-breaking, subversive live music, DJs and other happenings (2pm-9.30pm), followed by an after party at the Flying Duck in Glasgow lasting deep into the long dark night (10pm-2am). We're pairing up with our pals from PRAH Recordings, the Margate-based record label who, like us, turned 10 in 2023, to present a bill including Callum Easter, Lost Map present Weird Wave, Maranta, MF Tomlinson, The Umlauts, Tony Njoku, uh and Free Love (DJs). Fancy dress is encouraged, and there'll be a special mask making station led by VOMITON. Tickets are £16 for the Platform show, and £10 for the after party, which includes bus travel direct to the Flying Duck. Please do not vomit on the bus 🤢.
On Saturday, December 16 it's the return of Lost Map's Christmas Humbug! all-dayer at Summerhall in Edinburgh. This year we're dividing it into two, with a family-friendly daytime show – free entry for under-12s – lasting 1.30pm-5.30pm, then, following a brief dinner break of perhaps a Subway ™ 12" "Festive Turkey Stack" or simply traditional chips off a bin, an evening show from 7pm-1am. Different line-ups TBA for both shows, which you can buy tickets for seperately (£12 / £16), or both together at an all-day price of £25. No "Santa" costumes, please, they're triggering.

NEW MUSIC + NEW TOUR DATES FOR
LOST MAP PRESENTS WEIRD WAVE
|
|
From Ainsley Harriott's irritatingly cheerful features to the gnarled visage of Jimmy Nail, if you could "unrecognise" the face of any one celebrity, whose would it be? Food for thought as you enjoy the party-tastic new song 'Unrecognise!' by Lost Map presents Weird Wave. Our resident super group led by Pictish Trail and featuring members of eagleowl, Savage Mansion, Kid Canaveral, L.T. Leif and Tuff Love among others.
Taken from the band's forthcoming self-titled debut album, written and recorded in residency on the isle of Eigg earlier this year and due for release on October 6, 2023, 'Unrecognise!' is a choppy, syncopated call-and-response full-band jam powered by the party post-punk of Talking Heads and The B52’s. It’s released as part of Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service in September, as well as on digital platforms.
Fresh from triumphant festival appearances at Lost Map’s Howlin’ Fling, Green Man in Wales and Sea Power’s Krankenhaus, LMPWW are heading out on the road some more in the autumn and winter, with shows in the bright lights of Newport-on-Tay, Easterhouse and Telford among other places (see below for full list). Tickets for a show in London at The Lexington on Friday, December 8 are experimentally priced on a "pay what you can" model. If you can pay $1 million, please do. Otherwise nbd a fiver is fine.

"I wind up here every single time," sings Sulka mournfully in the refrain of his rockin' good new track 'Windup'. As we heap together yet another illogical plate of delicious pan-continental shame at the Hot World Cuisine ™ global buffet, it's a hard relate from us.
A song about “the idea of someone ‘completing’ you or filling in gaps in your personality,” says Lukas, AKA Sulka, 'Windup' originally featured on 2021’s Front Door EP in stripped-back format. It's been given the explosive full-band treatment it deserves as part of Sulka's superb new album Distractions, which is due for release on September 29 on limited-edition 12" vinyl ( pre-order now). “The title Distractions is a reference to the fleeting nature in which we interact with music in this age,” Lukas explains. “It also aptly sums up the themes of escapism that are common to many of my songs and how music itself is one of the ways in which we can transcend the experience of day-to-day life.”
Sulka will lauch Distractions with a show at The Rum Shack in Glasgow on Friday, September 29, featuring support from Lost Map's own Susan Bear. After that he's off on tour to Newcastle, Oxford, London and Edinburgh. See full list of dates below. See the full menu at Hot World Cuisine ™ here.

SEPTEMBER POSTMAP CLUB
FEAT. SEAMUS FOGARTY
|
|
The famous Seamus Fogarty returns to Lost Map! A dolorously funny spoken word lament set to queasily de-tuned guitar chords and wheezing synths, ‘They Recognised Him’ is the brand-new single from our favourite London-based Irish folk and electronica mashing singer-songwriter. Released as part of Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service in September as well as via digital services, it marks Seamus’s first work with Lost Map since 2015’s Ducks and Drakes EP, after which he left us crying and alone went off to release two very fine and critically acclaimed albums for Domino Records. The video for ‘They Recognised Him’ premieres at midday today. It's taken from Seamus's forthcoming Hee Haw EP, a ramshackle collection of songs and instrumentals which he's has been working on for the last couple of years. It’s set for release on Lost Map on 12” vinyl and via digital services on October 27, 2023. Seamus will tour the UK and Ireland throughout autumn and winter – see below for full list of dates.
“I got into the idea of doing a spoken word track after spending a good portion of 2021 and 2022 listening to early 90s hip hop while collaborating on the soundtrack to an Irish movie called ‘Sunlight’ with my friend Barry Ward,” says Seamus of ‘They Recognised Him’. “Ordinarily I would be far too self-conscious to make something like this, but I found myself really enjoying this slightly new approach to writing lyrics and the story just fell on to the page. It started out being quite humorous but the lockdown and the months following it were so tough, I wanted to write a song with a really solid backbone that would serve as a message to myself and to whoever else might listen.
“A few months later I was on tour with my friend Lisa O’Neill, closing my set each night with ‘They Recognised Him’ – my not-so-subtle way of promoting a tour EP that I had put together beforehand so I’d have something new for the merch table. People were really drawn to the track and the EP so when the tour was over I got in touch with Johnny at Lost Map about giving it a proper release and he said yes."
