No stranger to the Hebrides, KYLE MOLLESON grew up on the Isle of Harris, a childhood immersed in the sound of fire-side reels and island ceilidh thrills. When his family moved to the south west of England, Kyle spent his teens dabbling in indie bands, before discovering the world of electronic music while studying in Leeds. His productions as MAKENESS are genre-defying bass driven concoctions, that blur the lines between live band and club DJ, Kyle’s blissed-out vocals swimming in a sea of pristine house grooves, woozy ambience and motorik psychedelia.
Currently based in London, Kyle traveled up to the Isle of Eigg with his good friend, next-door-neighbour and bandmate GUS BEAMISH-COOK - a Suffolk-born synth-addict, who previously made mind-warping dance-pop rhythms as BEWILDERBEAST, and who also collaborates on another project with Kyle as SMALL CAR NRG. The pair transformed St Franny's into a Tardis-like interstellar vehicle, the twinkling lights of various analogue and digital contraptions scattered across every available surface reflecting the blanket of stars that spilled in through the windows of the long February evenings.
The music they made together over the course of a week perfectly captures their experience; the swelling chords of the sea, emotional paeans to the stunning views, the propulsive hypnotic beat of winter’s all-encompassing darkness, and even the happy hardcore joys of a night spent drinking with some locals at the community hall.
