S6 01: January 2024 - Victoria Hume + more

Happy New Year! Congratulations - you survived 2023. If your New Year’s Resolution is to follow the exploits of a independent record label based on a remote island in the inner Hebrides of Scotland, well then you’ve come to the right place ...

We’ve got tunes for you from SULKA, MAKENESS, KINBOTE and SUSAN BEAR, plus a bit of goss about some upcoming Pictish tour dates, and the inside scoop on a Lost Map showcase at the Social in London.

Our featured interview this month is with VICTORIA HUME, who talks us through the making of her brand new album Radical Abundance - a collection of songs about the state of capitalism, the destruction it’s caused, the inevitabilities it’s created … and looking towards what might emerge next.  It’s inspired by the book Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World by Jason Hickel and it’s based around interviews Victoria conducted with Hickel as well as other activists and agitators. Radical Abundance is out on 19th January on limited edition CD with printed zine.

S5 12: December 2023 - Two White Cranes + more

Our last pod o’ the year finds LAURA and PICTISH TRAIL in relatively festive fettle, with a product endorsement for Lidl’s own-brand stollen, and even some discussion about actual music.

It’s the “season finale” of series 5! Join PICTISH TRAIL and LAURA for another hour of LOST MAP goodness, including a sneaky peek at all the new music we’re releasing through our POSTMAP CLUB. We’ve got the first single from a fresh signing called AFTERLANDS; a live session track from MARTHA FFION; and a taste of the forthcoming album from SAVAGE MANSION. We’ve also got information on our December events in London and Edinburgh, as well as an archive track from the mad-cap musical inventor, ICHI.

Our featured interview this month is with Roxy Brennan, aka TWO WHITE CRANES, who talks us through her life in music, the various scenes she’s been a part of in Bristol, Oxford and Brighton, as well as a deep dive on her brand new album - Self Build - which is out NOW on limited edition CD.

There’s also a special edition of FIRST GIG WORST GIG, featuring Emma Daman Thomas from the band ISLET - who reports on her tween BritPop fantasies, and reveals the perils of early-00’s fashion for drummers. ISLET will be performing at our HUMBUG! all-dayer at SUMMERHALL in EDINBURGH on Saturday 16th December.

S5 11: November 2023

Join hosts PICTISH TRAIL and LAURA for another hour of Lost Map goodness, including (not due to popular demand, or indeed any sort of demand) a reboot of long-lost regular feature, First Gig Worst Gig.

It’s November, the nights are fair drawing in, and LAURA reckons it's the start of winter already. PICTISH TRAIL is still in a summery mood, and tries to pay Laura a compliment on her hair - but ends up talking about his own greasy locks for possibly too many minutes. Thankfully there’s some new music to keep you entertained - the obligatory track from LOST MAP PRESENTS WEIRD WAVE, an archive track from EAGLEOWL, as well as some new music on PostMap Club from TWO WHITE CRANES, VICTORIA HUME and SUSAN BEAR.

There’s no featured interview this month, but we have resurrected an ol’ fave - FIRST GIG WORST GIG, in which artists tell us about the first gig they attended as a punter, and the very worst gig they’ve ever played themselves. It’s a bumper edition of the segment, with confessions from both SEAMUS FOGARTY and ALEXIA AVINA, who conveniently have new releases out this month on vinyl. PLUG PLUG PLUG.

S5 10: October 2023 - Sulka + more

Incredibly, this is the 50th episode of the Lost Map Podcast. We’ve only just realised this, while writing these show-notes… so there’s no actual mention of it in the episode. Thought you might wanna know anyway. Are you even reading this bit?

S5 09: September 2023 - Ten Years Of Lost Map, Part 2

In possibly their most “method” episode yet, established actors PICTISH TRAIL and LAURA accurately portray the overwhelming sense of hangover from last month’s 10th ANNIVERSARY shows. They should win a Podcast Oscar, if such a thing exists.

Somehow PICTISH TRAIL and LAURA have survived Lost Map’s busiest month, celebrating the label’s official 10th anniversary. But if you thought all the milk had run dry from our birthday celebrations … well, you were probably right … but we’re still squeezing the udders for one final dusty spray of cherished memories.

There’s chat about all the fun times had at HOWLIN’ FLING!, and our experiences at GREEN MAN festival, as well as a trip down memory lane, playing our fave tracks of the past ten years by MANUELA and TUFF LOVE.

We’ve also got brand NEW tunes from our PostMap Club - including the second single from LOST MAP presents WEIRD WAVE, the return of SEAMUS FOGARTY, plus a fresh cut from SULKA’s forthcoming album Distractions.

S5 02: February 2023 - L.T. Leif + Hairband + more

It’s the first day of a new month, which means PICTISH TRAIL and LAURA are in their jammies, and ready to pod. On today’s episode, there are fresh tunes from CLÉMENTINE MARCH, SDF, and FREE LOVE to enjoy, as well as information about a brand new signing to the label roster, HAIRBAND … but first they had to make sure they expressed their opinions on the disgusting instagram advert and accompanying tour ticket prices by MADONNA. What an absolute disgrace.

This month’s interview is with Canadian songsmith L.T. LEIF, who talks us through their life in music, their move to Glasgow and the making of their new album, Come Back To Me, But Lightly - which was released late-January 2023 on limited edition vinyl via Lost Map, in association with our good friends OK Pal Records.

S5 01: January 2023 - Your New Year Mega-Mix Work Out Tape

If you spent all of 2022 in a coma, don’t worry - PICTISH TRAIL can bring you up to speed on everything you’ve missed. Except Eastenders, he didn’t watch any of that. Actually, he did watch the Xmas Special, but he wasn’t 100% sure of what was going on.

Singer-songwriter PICTISH TRAIL runs the independent record label and collective LOST MAP from his home, on the Isle of Eigg, Scotland. Join him for the next 72 minutes, as he runs through a choice selection of tracks from the label catalogue over the past 12 months, as well as some spins of brand new “as yet unreleased" material. The perfect soundtrack for your New Year / New You fitness regime work-out … in so far as it starts out quite energetic, and then gets a bit wheezy, slightly trippy, and then blissed out. By which point you’ll thoroughly deserve a cup of tea and the remaining segments of that Terry’s Chocolate Orange you got for Xmas.

Oh there’s some gossip about Howlin’ Fling!, too. You’ll have to listen to find out, mind.

S4 10: November 2022 - VISITATIONS - Alliyah Enyo

Reunited via the internet, PICTISH TRAIL and LAURA chat through all this month’s releases on Lost Map, including a VISITATIONS EP from ALLIYAH ENYO, new music from FELL and FREE LOVE, and some ol’ classics from BALLBOY.

After a couple of months of touring and cavorting with middle-aged alt-rock heroes, PICTISH TRAIL has returned to Eigg, and realises that the Lost Map admin pile has gone out of control. Thankfully LAURA is on-hand, via internet connection from Edinburgh, to sort through this month’s releases on PostMap Club, and our upcoming live music events.

Our featured interview this month is with ALLIYAH ENYO, a multi-disciplinary artist from Edinburgh, who came up to stay in St Franny’s Bothan on Eigg in May of 2022 to take part in our VISITATIONS residency project. She chats to us about her life in music, her debut album release for Somewhere Between Tapes, her performance at Hidden Door Festival, as well as her experience on Eigg.

Also this month … we’ve got a taste of new music from FREE LOVE; an as-yet-unreleased album track from FELL; something from the vaults by BALLBOY; as well as news on a variety of upcoming label showcases - including two shows in December for DAYLIGHT MUSIC, the line-up for our HUMBUG! events in Glasgow and Edinburgh, plus info on the first of many "10th Anniversary" shows for 2023.

To support everything we do at Lost Map, you should join PostMap Club. S4 08: September 2022 - VISITATIONS - Makeness

Join PICTISH TRAIL and his good pal LAURA for an hour of music and chat about all things LOST MAP, including an interview with electronic producers MAKENESS about their trip to the Isle of Eigg...

The summer is suddenly fizzling out, and so it’s back to school for PICTISH TRAIL and LAURA. There’s a run through of PICTISH TRAIL’s TOP 5 MOMENTS OF GREEN MAN FESTIVAL, which - surprise surprise - are mostly about his own performances. There’s some daft chat about Little Boots, Hot Shots Part Deux, and a very special cameo for the regular PostMap Club spiel. On top of all this, there's a taste of brand new music from MARANTA and ALEXIA AVINA, as well as some gig news and album tracks from SUSAN BEAR and DELIFINGER.

Our third series of our artist residency programme, VISITATIONS, continues with a release from London-based electronic maestros, MAKENESS, the project of London-based producer and performer Kyle Molleson and friends. Kyle journeyed up to the Isle of Eigg in February 2022, accompanied by his bandmate Gus Beamish-Cook, where they spent a week in St Franny’s Bothan writing and recording brand new material - which PostMap Club members can listen to, exclusively, in full. In this episode of the podcast, we caught up with Kyle and Gus at their local skate park, where they talk us through their life in music, and the experience they had recording on the island, featuring clips of the truly banging tracks they made together.

S4 07: August 2022 - Festi-Bonkers

It’s the height of festival season, so what better way to spend an hour than in the company of three festival burn-outs, PICTISH TRAIL, LAURA and BART OWL? Join them as they purge their desires and inner-demons to recall their fantasy festival line-ups and darkest memories...

In our first episode of the podcast to be recorded IN PERSON for a long time (since the Free Love episode in 2018, or possibly the Xmas spesh with Malcolm Middleton?), PICTISH TRAIL travels down to Edinburgh to chat face-to-face with LAURA in the confines of her flat, making use of both toilets, under the watchful eye of guest co-host BART OWL. Together they share their memories of the recent HOWLIN’ FLING ISLAND FAMILY GATHERING event on Eigg, delivering all the salacious goss you’ve come to expect from this gibbering podcast. Boobs at the moon? Drunken ceilidh dancing? Two toilets? It’s all in here.

Continuing our festival theme, we've got a clip of a Howlin’ Fling live session from COURTNEY MARIE ANDREWS recorded during her visit to Eigg - the full video version of which is available exclusively to POSTMAP CLUB members. We’ve also got new PostMap music from DELIFINGER and THE GN BAND - who respectively offer some insight into their dream festival line-ups and nightmare hellscapes.

We’ve even got a special edition of our First Gig Worst Gig segment, with Oliver from SDF guiding us through his own sordid weekender experiences in FIRST FEST/WORST FEST. It’s almost like being there. So much so, during all the excitement, we’ve lost our pal L.T. LEIF somewhere on site - but they’ve just left us a message telling us where we can find them…

S4 06: July 2022 - Gordon McIntyre, SDF + more

PICTISH TRAIL has been so busy organising the 'Island Family Gathering’ event on Eigg that he's run out of time to record a conversation with LAURA this month - so you'll just have to listen to him all on his own. His voice sounds different on its own, doesn’t it?

We’re half-way through the year, normally a time to take stock, and ruminate over the delights of the past 6 months, while sipping a colourful cocktail, drifting across an outdoor swimming pool on a lilo, wearing only a thong. PICTISH TRAIL doesn’t have time for any of that, mind you. He’s struggling to remember how to erect the food marquee for the upcoming ISLAND FAMILY GATHERING event happening on Eigg this weekend, and has used up all his mobile data perusing unhelpful instructional videos. As such, he’s been unable to have a web-chat with his usual co-host, LAURA. She has managed to send over a lo-fi recording via dial-up, mind you.

GORDON McINTYRE is our featured interview this month, talking us through his songwriting process, and the making of his brand new solo LP, Even With The Support Of Others - which is out on LP on July 15th.
As well as all that, we've got music and tour news from BAS JAN and ALEXIA AVINA, some PostMap Club sounds from a mysterious London-based electronic collective known simply as SDF, plus a full run-down of all the different acts playing at the Island Family Gathering.

To support Lost Map, and to help us release more music in 2022, join our PostMap Club. S4 05: June 2022 - Susan Bear, LT Leif + more

Now they are seasoned podcasters, Pictish Trail and Laura discover that it’s nigh-on impossible to avoid slipping into Partridge every 5 minutes. The show might as well be called Mid-Morning Mappers, at this point.

Summer has arrived, but PICTISH TRAIL and LAURA are defiantly “taps ann”, and reporting to you from their respective homes on the Isle of Eigg and Edinburgh, with all the latest goss from Lost Map Records. There’s also some chat about chickens.

SUSAN BEAR is our featured interview this month, talking us through her life in music, and all the inside goss on the making of her new solo album, Alter, released on limited edition vinyl on June 10th. We also witness the return of FIRST GIG WORST GIG, with a brand new signing, the Canadian singer-songwriter LT LEIF - a tale which veers from homely to homeless.

On top of all that, we've got a selection of tracks from the other releases in this month's POSTMAP CLUB mail-out - new music from MARANTA and JENNY MOORE’S MYSTIC BUSINESS - as well as tracks from releases by SULKA and EMMA KUPA.
