PICTISH TRAIL'S FOLLOW FOOTSTEPS EP OUT NOW – UK TOUR STARTS NEXT WEEK
Bringing to mind low budget swords'n'scorcery epics such as Excalibur [1981], The Beastmaster [1982] and Krull [1983], the amazing new video for Pictish Trail's track 'Island Family' (Summer Redux) is a must watch for anyone with fond memories of VHS-era film classics starring a young Liam Neeson and/or Mark Fowler out of Eastenders. Directed by longtime friend of Lost Map James Hankins (who has also worked with the likes of Self Esteem, Tim Heidecker and Weyes Blood), it features James's nephew Ray Taylor-Hankins as some sort of forest-dwelling mystical sci-fi adventurer with a line in cool animal skull headgear. We're not really sure what any of it means, but it well suits the peaced-out pastoral-psychedelic strains of Pictish's song. We look forward to seeing Ray starring in a franchise of violent senior tough guy revenge movies and/or Eastenders soon.
'Island Family' (Summer Redux) is one of several reduxes from Pictish Trail's new EP Follow Footsteps, which is out now and selling fast on limited-edition 12" vinyl (available either direct from us, or from the list of shops below). Hailed for its "serenity" and "gentle magnificence" in a lovely review by Joyzine, the EP comprises a number of stripped-back reworkings of songs from Pictish's latest album Island Family, done in a dreamy-sweet softly trippy style together with a trio of musicians on cello, harp, keys etc. The same trio – Susan Bear, Semay Wu and Gillian Fleetwood – will be accompanying Pictish Trail on tour at a short run of very special dates starting next Wednesday, September 25 in Leeds. Scroll all the way down for the full list of dates, or click through for tickets here. Watch a really great fight scene from Krull and laugh at Liam Neeson's sideburns here.

INTRODUCING: CURTIS MILES
Out of the kitchen straight into our affections, meet Lost Map's latest signing Curtis Miles – a purveyor of raggedy, lovelorn lo-fi country songs that'll break hearts like eggs and whip up bittersweet emotions like a fine meringue tart. His debut single 'European Muse' is out now as part of September's PostMap Club, have a listen here.
Raised in the deep south of Cornwall and now based in Glasgow, Curtis started making music with the punk project Yung KP (titled after his day job as a kitchen porter), releasing two EPs via underground label Fuzzkill Records, before going on to join the acclaimed Glasgow post-punk party band Kaputt, of which he remains a member. His solo songwriting has seen him revert to his first love of artists like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Band and Creedence Clearwater Revival. "In recent years, I’ve just found myself going country crazy," says Curtis, "as well as discovering old Cornish folk artists, Brenda Wootton being my favourite." We'll be releasing Curtis's home-cooked feast of a debut album What Could’ve Become Of later in 2024 – more updates to follow soon.

SEPTEMBER POSTMAP CLUB
FEAT. SARA WOLFF + SAVAGE MANSION
Originally from Norway but now based in Liverpool, Sara Wolff is a storyteller weaving together elements of indie-folk, prog rock and art-pop with analogue warmth. Her second single for yer old pals Lost Map is the moodily prismatic ‘Lost In Your Neighbourhood’ – “a song about time’s healing powers, nettle picking and self-assurance” says Sara. Like her previous single the softly psychedelic ‘Is It True’, it was recorded in Margate with Mercury Prize winning wonk-folk musician Mike Lindsay, best known from his acclaimed bands Tunng and LUMP (with Laura Marling). It’s released as part of Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service in September, as well as available to stream and share on digital platforms now. Sara's playing live around the UK over the next few weeks, including tonight (Wednesday) in Liverpool – scroll down for full dates.
Elsewhere in the PostMap Club party bag this September, it's the maybe-possibly-could-be final single in some time from Savage Mansion, as the band tease their last shows "for a while" next month – a pair of back-to-back dates at the Hug and Pint in Glasgow, October 24-25 that promise to be v emotional. If 'Total Colombia', the standout track from their latest album The Shakes, is to be the SavMen's sign-off for the foreseeable then it is an Extremely Rocking Sign-Off™, replete with a donking dub remix by DJ Haircut, AKA the band's keyboardist Adam Forbes. Watch the video for 'Total Colombia' here.
