V I S I T ▲ T I O N S
- SERIES 02 RELEASE #2 -
THE DEBUT SOLO ALBUM BY RACHEL AGGS
If you like us consider an elaborate sandwich, six b2b episodes of classic Harold'n'Madge era Neighbours and a good cleansing cry in the shower to be a day well spent, then so-called "productive" people may make you feel nervous / inadequate, and probably deservedly so. Nonetheless, we were v. pleased / impressed when Rachel Aggs came up to Eigg to take part in our V I S I T ▲ T I O N S residency programme last year, and wrote and recorded an entire album in a single week. An entire album, in a week! Maniac!
The second artist to be featured as part of V I S I T ▲ T I O N S S02, Rachel Aggs is an exceptionally prolific virtuoso of euphoric post-punk who has achieved international acclaim with her collaborative projects Trash Kit, Shopping and Scottish Album of the Year Award Winners Sacred Paws. Creating zines and co-ordinating workshops that encourage women, non-binary people, and people of colour to form bands, she has galvanised the DIY scene in London, and her current home of Glasgow. Arriving on Eigg during the final week of August 2019, armed with her guitar, violin, laptop and a drum machine, Rachel set about creating a diary of songs and instrumental pieces – a flurry of activity so fruitful that she ended up coming away with what is effectively her debut solo album. The intimate recordings showcase Rachel's distinctive guitar and vocal style, mixed a with lo-fi pop sensibility, capturing a snapshot of isolation inside and outside of the bothy; where field recordings of the sea crashing wildly against the rocks meet the sound of a kettle whistling. "Sing to the sky, sing to the waves."
The album is available now, exclusively as part of a subscription service which you can sign up to for just £25 for a digital sub and £45 for a physical sub. You'll also straight away receive the first installment in V I S I T ▲ T I O N S S02, an EP by Arthur King (starring Grandaddy's Jason Lytle), and later in the year you'll get the third installment, featuring music from a new project by Rozi Plain. That's a lot of installments!

JULY POSTMAP CLUB: FEATURING NEW CELEBRITY ENDORSED MUSIC FROM ALABASTER DEPLUME
Look, even if we did once nearly get in a fight with Phil Oakey from the Human League, nobody likes a namedropper so we'll just have to save our Amazing Celebrity Anecdotes – including LaserQuest with Keith Chegwin and That Time Cat Power Gave Johnny Twenty Quid When He Was On Acid – for another day (at least one of these things really did happen btw). That being said, pls indulge us in ever-so-subtly mentioning just in passing that THE FAMOUS SINGER BON IVER™ LIKES ALABASTER DEPLUME and prominently sampled the saxophone riff from his track 'Visit Croatia' – as featured on Alabaster's v. excellent and v. chill album To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals Vol. 1 – on his latest, many millions of times streamed track 'PDLIF'. Yes, that's Bon Iver – Famous Singer™, son of Bono and Bonnie Langford, brother of Bon Jovi and second cousin of Simon Le Bon. NBD.
In events entirely unrelated we're cashing in shamelessly by releasing an EP featuring 'Visit Croatia' as the lead track, backed by two exclusive brand new Alabaster dePlume B-sides – 'The Good Wine' and 'Black Drifts' – as part of this month's PostMap Club subscription service. Sign up now if you haven't done so already and, before July is done, in the post thou shalt have received not only the Visit Croatia EP, but also postcards featuring musics by Fell, Good Dog and one other *brand new and v. v. good* Lost Map artist TBA. Not to mention all of last month's postcards by A.R. Pinewood, Martha Ffion and Fell as well. SIMON LE BONGO that's a good deal!
Of course, as Jesus once explained, you don't receiveith unless you first giveth – it's simple economics – and as such, here's reminder of the price plans + full benefits of joining the PostMap Club.
