MARTHA FFION'S NEW ALBUM
NIGHTS TO FORGET IS OUT NOW
You know that feeling when you've ordered delivery of a delicious Indian takeaway set meal for two which you're looking forward to eating entirely by yourself, in the bath, but the guy on the phone said it'll take around 40 minutes to arrive and you try so, so hard to wait but you're weak and you just can't make it and after only 23 minutes you've already cooked and eaten two Chicago Town™ "Deep Dish" pizzas washed down with half a Walls Viennetta™? Well, we've been determined to not let that happen – or something like that anyway – when it comes to our enjoyment of Martha Ffion's new album Nights to Forget. No sir, we've dug deep and kept our ears virginal and spare for nearly three months now, counting down the days in zen-like silence but for the occasional, palate-cleansing blast of the rousing theme song from Das Boot.
And like the first blessed sting of spiced onions on the tongue, the day, release day, TODAY, has finally arrived and, troops, we are so ready. Feast – nay, banquet – on the hot contents of Martha AKA Claire's fresh'n'zesty pop opus, an album creamier than a bag of saag paneer, tangier than a mouthful of mango chutney. A record so good we don't even have to tell you how good it is because other more trustworthy souls will attest to its goodness for us – for instance the good people at Uncut magazine ("wry bedroom pop"), or the gooder people at Clash ("a multi-layered, highly-textual feast"), or the goodest Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music ("so gorgeous"), or even the not quite as good but still very good Barrygruff ("a real musical treasure"). It is certifiably good and if you still don't believe us then, friend, you can just stick a chapati where the sun don't shine.

PRE-ORDER ALEXIA AVINA'S ALBUM UNEARTH NOW
From far across the ocean through the wonders of the information superhighway and "electronic mail", we are gradually getting to better know our latest signing, Massachusetts-based Alexia Avina, and let us tell you, dear reader, it's proving really interesting. For instance, did you know that Alexia was born and raised in Southeast Asia? Or that she was first motivated to start writing songs after attending Girls Rock Camp in Portland, Oregon aged 11? Or that she only recently moved to the USA for the first time despite being an American citizen her whole life? Why would you know these things? It would just be weird if you did.
It's another two whole months until we release Alexia's stunning debut album Unearth, and it's going to be a tough wait until then – see tortured analogy about curry above. But you can at least secure your CDR copy of this dreamy, dreamy wonder now by pre-ordering it from Lost Map Records dot com. We're hand-making just 200 copies of these hand-stamped little bad boys (don't worry we'll wash our hands first). In the meantime, if you haven't done so already, you can watch the video for the first single from the album, 'Fit Into' – as endorsed by the likes of GoldFlakePaint, Paste, Clash, Mindies, BBC 6 Music's Gideon Coe and more – here. Feel better already? You're welcome!

AUGUST POSTMAP CLUB FEAT:
SAVAGE MANSION, FELL + MORE
July's PostMap Club dispatch was such a meaty ensemble it left us pondering a) what can we top it with in the month of August? and, b) which is the best lunchtime sandwich meat: corned beef, haslet, nebulous "continental meats" or quite simply a traditional slice of ham? It didn't take us long to come up with answers to both questions, and they are as follows:
a)
- Savage Mansion – 'Monument' b/w 'Third Lanark' Another classic track from the Sav Men's excellent Weird Country, including an exclusive b-side reluctantly left off of the album. 'Third Lanark started life as "an alternative history of the titular football team", Craig explains, before becoming a reflective downtempo number contemplating "the wealth that Glasgow was built on and where it came from". Goooaaaaaal!
- Fell – 'Sides I/J' A songwriter so prolific he makes Prince look like a lazy wee jakey, Fell's Nic Burrows continues his epic year-long project to release all of the songs – allllll of the soooooongs – alllll of them infernally catchy.
- A Mystery Lost Map Compilation TBC This is still in the works etc, but being that we're approaching a major PostMap milestone soon, we figured we'd try and put together a kind of best of PostMap type collection. May yet all go to sh*t. Watch this space.
b)
Quite simply a traditional slice of ham.

V I S I T ▲ T I O N S S02:
READ ALL ABOUT IT AT THE QUIETUS
"Magic in residence" – not our words, but the words of respected music website ™ The Quietus, as part of a very thorough and entertaining feature all about our residency project V I S I T ▲ T I O N S, whereby we kidnap top songwriters and lock them in a posh hut on Eigg and make them make tunes for us. They chatted to Pictish Trail and series two participants Rachel Aggs and Jason Lytle and heard all about Eigg's "peculiar and potent creative spirit" (drink). The Quietus also made our latest V I S I T ▲ T I O N S S02 release, the debut solo album by Rachel Aggs, their Album of the Week – "an experiment that draws you into Aggs’ own inward-looking journey," they say, "recreating the sensations and echoes of isolation, loneliness, and transformation, for all to seek solace and understanding in."
The second artist to be featured as part of V I S I T ▲ T I O N S S02, Rachel Aggs is an exceptionally prolific virtuoso of euphoric post-punk who has achieved international acclaim with her collaborative projects Trash Kit, Shopping and Scottish Album of the Year Award Winners Sacred Paws. Creating zines and co-coordinating workshops that encourage women, non-binary people, and people of colour to form bands, she has galvanised the DIY scene in London, and her current home of Glasgow. Arriving on Eigg during the final week of August 2019, armed with her guitar, violin, laptop and a drum machine, Rachel set about creating a diary of songs and instrumental pieces – a flurry of activity so fruitful that she ended up coming away with what is effectively her debut solo album. The intimate recordings showcase Rachel's distinctive guitar and vocal style, mixed a with lo-fi pop sensibility, capturing a snapshot of isolation inside and outside of the bothy; where field recordings of the sea crashing wildly against the rocks meet the sound of a kettle whistling. "Sing to the sky, sing to the waves."
The album is available now, exclusively as part of a subscription service which you can sign up to for just £25 for a digital sub and £45 for a physical sub. You'll also straight away receive the first installment in V I S I T ▲ T I O N S S02, an EP by Arthur King (starring Grandaddy's Jason Lytle), and later in the year you'll get the third installment, featuring music from a new project by Rozi Plain.
