NEW MUSIC FROM CALLUM EASTER
“There’s no point crying, what’s the use?" growls Callum Easter on his thrilling new single 'What You Think? "No more hiding, what’s the use?” As we emerge from the wardrobe wiping away tears after yet another panic attack brought on by an encounter none more threatening than Amazon coming to the door to deliver the Nigella recipe book Simply Nigella, we feel somehow reassured, emboldened even, by Callum's words. We don't get out much these days you see. Thank you, Callum Easter. And thank you, Nigella, for the oven-cooked chicken shawarma.
Ladies and gentlemen, Callum Easter is back with a new album – his first since his Scottish Album of the Year Award nominated 2019 debut Here Or Nowhere. Set for release in September 2021 his latest exhilarating dose of mutated soul, punk and rock‘n’roll System is, to put it lightly, a complete badass. Badder than legendary Neighbours bad guy Len Mangel. Badder than the German spa town of Bad Wildbad. Badder even than Nigella's tamarind-marinated badette steak with a side serving of sweet and sour BAD. Cheers sons crying. Nice one.
You can pre-order the v. v. bad(ass) System on vinyl right now straight from us, while continuing to enjoy a flavour of the album through the absolute fire emoji video for the new single 'What You Think?' Contains drag queens, knife-throwing, dancing. 10/10 would and do recommend .

BACK 2 LIVE, BACK 2 REALITY
It's the day we've dreamed would eventually come. Well, we say "dreamed", but as we rummage frantically through clothes drawers which seem to only be stuffed with spacious "lounge wear" spotted with random condiment stains, what we probably actually mean is "feared". The day of Lost Map's return to the real world – "IRL" as the young people call it – is nearly upon us. Ladies and gentlemen, Lost Map is doing a festival. Ladies and gentlemen, don't be fooled by us throwing up all the time (social anxiety, sorry) – we are so excited to see you again in the IRL! Excuse the lounge pants.
Over the weekend of August 27-28, 2021 at the trippy-bucolic Jupiter Artland sculpture park outside of Edinburgh, Lost Map will be bringing the , by co-curating a banging DIY weekender that will feature musics from our very own Pictish Trail, Callum Easter, Alabaster dePlume, Rachel Aggs and Romeo Taylor among other delights, including excellent pals Free Love. It's a camping event, with a swimming lake, live music and DJs until late, top food and boozes and free art included in your ticket price. If that all sounds too good to be true, trust us when we say that it's not (untrue). As in, it's true. Honestly it's true. Look just buy a ticket. Get that vaccine in yr butt and join us on the dancefloor.
For more Lost Map live-ness – yes, there's more! – see the long-awaited return of the Lost Map Gigs'n'Tours Megamix below.

MAY POSTMAP CLUB FEAT. EMMA KUPA
|
|
Happy birthday to you! "But it's not my birthday!" you humbly protest, to which we cheerfully respond: "doesn't matter pal!" To which you then respond "why's that then?" with a slightly panicked expression, "I don't want to be older!" (This hasn't gone how we'd hoped it would go). Just when we're on the verge of screaming "oh fine then FORGET IT" and slamming the door and storming off in a huff, we instead compose ourselves and explain that, when it comes to Emma Kupa's wonderful new song 'Happy Birthday' – available now as part of May's PostMap Club as well as via digital services – every day is your birthday. You're calmer now, even smiling a little. Phew!
Emma you may recognise as a former member of Standard Fare and a current member of Mammoth Penguins and The Hayman Kupa Band, as well as a solo artist and just general good egg and good friend of the Lost Maps. Her new standalone single is a gentle reminder to celebrate the good things in life, whether on your big day or any other day, even if you've not been good (within reason, nothing criminal). “ Happy Birthday is pretty self-explanatory,” explains Emma. “I wanted to write a song to wish a happy birthday to loved ones, but also when it’s my birthday I reflect on life so far etc, and I always tend to see what I haven’t achieved or what I regret. So, it is also a message to myself to focus more on the positives and also just be grateful to be alive and for what I do have.” You can enjoy more talking from Emma in the latest installment of the Lost Map Podcast.

Now, we're not about to suggest that Monoganon AKA Malmö, Sweden-based Scottish maker of strange, atmospheric and illogically melodic art-pop John B. McKenna has extraterrestrial connections or anything – cosmic dude as he may be. But it's hard not to ponder on the coincidence of his latest song 'UFO' being released in the same week in which Barack Obama basically confirmed the existence of aliens. Oh who's the one having the panic attacks now, eh? Who's the one crying in the wardrobe now? We see you. We feel you.
Did John know that our new alien overlords – to whom we for one bow down fyi – were coming, and decided to compose a kind of psychedelic space fanfare in their honour? Or did the aliens hear him from afar, conjuring wiggy jams from a modular synth in his Malmö bedroom, and think "yeah man give us some more of that good sh*t" as they loaded some Martian kusk into the star bong and set controls for the heart of Scandinavia? Or, are the aliens communicating with us through John, like some kind of mustachioed hipster space antenna? Anything is possible. All we know for sure is that 'UFO' is a real good song long overdue a release, and it's available now via the PostMap Club and digitally.
“I performed this song all over the UK wearing my strange paranormal owl costume,” says John, of the origins of 'UFO', “but I never released it for some reason. I think it’s a song that captured the spirit of everything I want to do. It feels comedic, alien, and poetic. It sounds like I recorded the vocals in my pyjamas, but I know I recorded it on an industrial estate in Malmö. I recognise that vocal style because sometimes I try to ‘automatically’ write songs, like channelling from the subconscious, or from the universe.”
