Hello Happy New Year it's been a while you're looking well etc, but more importantly let's talk S-E-X. Our preferred nocturnal activity is of course lounging around in generously elasticated lounge pants, watching Nazi Megastructures surrounded by a mélange of high-end supermarket crisps, but as adults aged 18+ with a healthy internet connection, we are well aware that others prefer getting "up to it" / "down to it" / "in about it" with sometimes more than one (1>) other human at a time (amazing!!!?). It's just these sorts of right s*xy buggers whom Bas Jan sing about on their really amazing and catchy new single 'Sex Cult', which is out now via Lost Map's PostMap Club subscription service as well as all the usual digital places. A video directed and edited by Jack Barraclough premiered this morning and is also v v excellent.
"A group composition inspired by Tom Tom Club and dating apps," is how Serafina Steer from Bas Jan circumspectly describes 'Sex Cult', which is the latest single to be released from their forthcoming second album Baby U Know. Due for release on January 28, 2022 – and already the subject of rave reviews from both Uncut ("high art-pop on a low budget" 9/10) and Mojo ("deserves undivided attention" ★★★★) – it’s the follow-up to BJ's critically acclaimed 2018 debut album Yes I Jan. Bas Jan will support the release of Baby U Know with tour dates around the UK (see below for details). PostMap Club subscribers will get exclusive access to a special Bas Jan concert, livestreaming on Wednesday, February 9, from 8pm. Members will receive a secret link and password, and can join us in the chat room. Bring crisps and for goodness sake KEEP IT CLEAN.

PICTISH TRAIL IS BACK FROM THE DEAD*
*Actually just a v v bad hangover
|
|
It was while wandering dazed and alone across an Eigg hillside one morning in his bare feet, boiler suit mysteriously stained in all the telltale places, that Pictish Trail finally stopped with a sigh and asked himself: "but is it all actually worth it?" And after quickly concluding that it was, indeed, worth it, he nevertheless resolved to "do it a bit less", and there in that moment creative epiphany fell upon him like a can of warm Tennent's lager poured from heaven, and a song was born. 'In The Land Of The Dead' is available to stream and share now.
An eight-bit glitch-core reflection on island party excesses spasming into existential dread and regret, suitably accompanied by a funereal mariachi band, 'In The Land Of The Dead' is the latest single taken from Johnny's forthcoming fifth album Island Family, which will arrive on March 18, 2022 on limited-edition slime green vinyl, black vinyl, CD and digital platforms (pre-order now). You can watch a nice trippy lyric video for the song – in which our hero valiantly shaves his beard – at the link above, while cheerfully singing along to feelgood lyrics like "I'm sorrrrrryyyyy". Pictish Trail will tour the UK in March/April this year with support from Savage Mansion – see below for dates.

JANUARY POSTMAP CLUB FEAT. SAVAGE MANSION
|
|
A song about the myriad hypocrisies of the ruling classes told through the frame of modern professional sports with clanging Britpop guitars, 'Football Weather' is the new single from Savage Mansion and let us promise you this – you need enjoy neither "football" nor indeed "weather" to have a rockin' good time listening to it (money back guarantee).
Available now as part of Lost Map's PostMap Club subscription service in the month of January, as well as via digital services, it's the latest track to be previewed from Savage Mansion's tree-mendous forthcoming third album Golden Mountain, Here I Come, which is set for release on February 25, 2022 and available to pre-order now on LP/CD and digital formats. Fun fact: the titular "golden mountain", which appears on the album's cover, is Greendykes Bing near Broxburn, which, to be clear, has nothing to do with Microsoft Bing, Bing Crosby nor indeed the Bada Bing. Click here to watch and share an exclusive live performance by Savage Mansion of 'Football Weather', filmed for the New Colossus Festival in New York. Which, to be clear, is nowhere near Broxburn.
Also included in the January PostMap Club fun bag:
- Bas Jan: 'Sex Cult' – Inversely-romantic agit-pop from the Jans (see above). Includes an exclusive live track, 'All Forgotten', recorded at Café OTO in London. A reminder that PostMap Club members will received exclusive access to a special Bas Jan livestream on February 9.
- Pictish Trail: 'In The Land Of The Dead' – Partied-out psychedelic-electronic neurotica from the Trail (see above). Includes an exclusive acoustic version of his track ‘Island Family’ plus a remix of the same song by PRAH records-signed London sibling electronic duo Uh.
