CHRISTMAS IS WRAPPED THANKS TO YOUR OLD PALS LOST MAP
An XL sharer bag of Wotsits Crunchy "Flamin' Hot"™, an air freshner, six cans, a scud mag and 20 Benson & Hedges – let's face it, it's only a matter of time before your loved ones figure out that you do all of your Christmas gift shopping the night before at the BP service station. To save you that embarassment, let yer old pals Lost Map help you do your Christmas shopping now, today, this very moment, before December has even come, by shopping the Lost Map collection exclusively from Lost Map dot com forward-slash shop. No before you ask, we don't do scud mags.
Kick festivities off early with tickets for our Xmas Humbug all-dayer at Summerhall in Edinburgh on Saturday, December 16 – the full line-up up for which is below. With an all-ages show in the afternoon and an adults-only show in the evening, divided by a dinner break of perhaps a Gregg's "Festive Bake"™, there should be something for everyone. Give the joys of Lost Map year round with a gift membership to our PostMap Club subscription service, priced from just £55 and ensuring that at least three postcards of music will drop through the letterbox of your chosen giftee every month for 12 months, together with a newsletter, a discount code, a badge and other assorted goodness (nope still no scud mags). Our stylish clothing selection warms heads, boobs/moobs and midriffs but mainly heads (bobble hats r back while stocks last! See pic below). Our records – too many new ones to mention – warm from the inside. Shop 'til you drop! Bow down to your capitalist gods! Spend, spend, spend!

VICTORIA HUME VS CAPITALISM
Okay look, we may have said some stuff apropos capitalism in the heat of the moment there that we regret, and yes we acknowledge that capitalism is inherently a v. bad thing and, y'know, arise ye workers from your slumbers etc etc. Another, more safe, just and equitable system which brings the economy back into balance with the living world through planned downscaling of energy and resource use is espoused by the Degrowth movement. And as it should so bloody well happen, we are releasing an album on that exact subject at the start of next year, by the one and only Victoria Hume. What are the chances!?
An ambitious, inspiring and thought-provoking project unlike anything Lost Map has worked on before, Radical Abundance is a record of absorbing atmospheric alt-folk songs from Musselburgh-based singer-songwriter Victoria, all about the dying days of capitalism and what might emerge next. Made with support from Creative Scotland, it’s inspired by the book Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World by Jason Hickel and based around interviews with Hickel as well as other activists and agitators seeking to steer the world away from a failing economic system that undermines all of our wellbeing. The album is due for release on January 19, 2024 on limited-edition CD with handmade zine and digital platforms and available for pre-order now. The first single, the softly keening and mysterious ‘Oblivious Structures’ is available as part of Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service and via digital platforms, with another track 'Bad Lover' set to hit streaming services next week. You can hear more from Victoria about Radical Abundance in a forthcoming special installment of the Lost Map Podcast sponsored by McDonalds.

NOVEMBER POSTMAP CLUB
FEAT. TWO WHITE CRANES + SUSAN BEAR
The November instalment of the post-based subscription service with the mostess the PostMap Club comes bearing treasures from friends of Lost Map old and new. Not that we're calling anyone old. You're only as old as you feel. We are currrently relaxing in some spacious, gravy-stained "lounge pants" after a large meal, doing some research on the Quantum Leap message board to see if we can work out how Sam peed whenever he was a woman, so feeling quite old tbh.
A well-known figure on the UK DIY music scene who has performed with bands from Joanna Gruesome and Grubs to Trust Fund, Two White Cranes AKA Roxy Brennan returns with first new material in several years in her prolific solo career with the brand-new EP Self Build. One half stripped bare electric guitar indie-pop pearls and the other half charming Casiotone electro earworms, all themed around humans and houses and the relationships they share, it’s the Hove-based musician’s debut release on Lost Map, and will arrive on December 1, 2023 on limited-edition CD and digital platforms ( pre-order now). It’s preceded by the double A-side single ‘City Streets’ b/w ‘Haunting’, which are both out now as part of the PostMap Club.
An artist who should need no re-introduction – because she's played with just about everyone on the label from Pictish Trail to Martha Ffion, Lost Map presents Weird Wave and loads more – Susan Bear is back with a first taste of new music with a new direction. ‘It’s You’ sees Suse delve further into her electronic side – still melancholy, tape-y vibes, but this time upping the energy, taking influence from club and dance music. It comes with a video visualiser by Glasgow 3D artist/designer and DJ VAJ.Power, and is backed with an exclusive remix by award-winning avant-garde musician Lara Jones. “‘It’s You’ is about going on a mad nostalgia trip,” says Suse, who may also be a fan of Quantum Leap, “and your brain tricking yourself into thinking the past is always better than the present.” You never spot a scud mag shoved in a bush beside the canal anymore do you? The past was definitely better.
