INTRODUCING: JENNY MOORE'S MYSTIC BUSINESS
One need only watch the Liam Neeson film Unknown (2011), or the Liam Neeson film A Walk Among The Tombstones (2014), or the Liam Neeson film The Commuter (2018), or the Liam Neeson films Taken, Taken 2 and Taken 3 (2008, 2012, 2015), to understand the raw emotions that can inform humankind's often powerful thirst for revenge. But if you'd prefer to understand these emotions in a more sensitive and less Liam Neeson based way, then can we please straight away draw your attention to the absolutely arse-kickingly good new video (directed by Sophie le Roux) for the fiercely political choral-punk incantation with R&B flex 'I Am Afraid' by Lost Map's brand new signing Jenny Moore's Mystic Business? "Sometimes I'm craving for revenge," sings Jenny in the song's empowering coda, by which point you, like Liam Neeson – who is nodding furiously btw – will know exactly what she means.
But enough about Irish tough-guy actor Liam Neeson, and more about Jenny Moore's Mystic Business. Hailing from the prairies of Canada, Jenny grew up with a strange brew of American hardcore and gospel music before moving to London. For the last 10 years, she’s straddled the DIY art and music scenes, playing in bands including Charismatic Megafauna and Bas Jan (whose debut album Yes I Jan we released on Lost Map in 2018), as well as running the Hackney-based feminist F*Choir. Her rabble-rousing six-piece ensemble JMMB is a testament to the raw power and untamed joy of communal singing, and features members of Bas Jan, Trash Kit, F*Choir and Bamboo as well as solo singer-songwriter Rubie.
“For anyone with a femme body, wandering home alone at night is not a straightforward situation,” explains Jenny, of the inspiration for ‘I Am Afraid’ (which to be entirely clear has nothing to do with Liam Neeson). “It's super common to be harassed, followed, or just really annoyed by someone demanding my attention, affection or performance for them. It can be terrifying. At the same time, it can be exhilarating to finally be on my own, on my own terms, in my own time, on my own two feet. ‘I Am Afraid’ is a full-of-joy-and-rage anthem for emotion, for not being ashamed of the spectrum, of wanting to be powerful and allow the bigness of life but also be p*ssed off at those people who’ve shut me up, literally or metaphorically."

As we approach the Christmas season – a strange and distant Christmas season unlike any many of us have ever known – all sorts of difficult questions may be weighing heavy on your mind. For instance: "what sort of cool, original and contact-free gift can I purchase for a music loving friend that will keep on giving all year long?" Or "is Rustlers Microwavable Cheese Burger™ acceptable Christmas food?" Or even "why is Liam Neeson in Love Actually and yet it's NOT a violent revenge thriller?" We may not have the answer to all of these questions BUT... no, actually, wait, we do have answers to all of these questions:
1) For a cool, original and contact-free gift for a music loving friend that will keep on giving all year long , look no further than a special, limited-time-only 2021 gift membership to Lost Map's PostMap Club. For £50 only, including UK postage (£60 Europe, £70 RoW), we'll send a Christmas card and membership badge to your chosen recipient (to arrive by December 23). After that, your friend/family member/secret lover (we don't judge) will receive postcards at the beginning of each month, from January to December 2021, containing new and exclusive music from Lost Map, plus a monthly newsletter from Pictish Trail. They're welcome!
2) Yes, is acceptable food.
3) Little known fact: Liam Neeson spent his time on the set of Love Actually plotting violent retribution against many of his co-stars, including Hugh Grant, Bill Nighy and especially Colin Firth (whom Neeson would refer to only as "Colin Filth"). Revenge, Actually – coming Christmas 2020.
The November PostMap Club features exclusive new music by Clémentine March, Sulka, Kinbote and Jenny Moore's Mystic Business. A round-up of the now THREE PostMap Club membership tiers and their respective prices and benefits is as follows:

WATCH THE NEW KINBOTE VIDEO,
PRE-ORDER HIS DEBUT ALBUM
His absolute dreamboat of a debut album Shifting Distance is out in just over a week's time – December 4 to be exact – and yet we feel like you're still not well enough acquainted with Kinbote AKA Matt Gibb, and how incredibly rude of us (sorry). Let's fix that now by sharing a variety of interesting biographical details about Matt Gibb, AKA Kinbote.
- Matt was consistently, from the age of about 7 to 19, "always in a band doing Oasis covers or something". STAY WITH US HERE.
- He was inspired to start making lo-fi, sample-based electronic music after he discovered artists like Death Grips, Teen Suicide and Ricky Eat Acid.
- "I learned about Lost Map through watching Rozi Plain music videos, and got in touch via the 'get in contact' section on their website," he says. IT REALLY WAS THAT SIMPLE.
- His debut album makes for excellent listening if you, like him, happen to have a short attention span. "I'm into the textures of ambient music but in the instrumental tracks on Shifting Distance, I try to do a version of that where something new happens at least every 10 seconds or so."
- Matt's shall-we-say "basic" core music making setup comprises a microphone, a laptop and a broken Yamaha keyboard from a charity shop. "Old-style FM keyboards like the Yamaha are amazing," says Matt, "and can create incredible sounds, and they're cheap and everywhere."
- His latest single '(On a String)' features lots of the aforementioned Yamaha keyboard, among other instruments. "It was probably the hardest song to mix on the whole album," Matt explains, "because there’s so much going on. It’s about a specific period of time when I was doing a summer internship and didn’t know anyone and I spent a lot of time in my room watching Westworld."
Ladies and gentlemen: Matt Gibb, AKA Kinbote.
