At the most wonderful time of a, let's face it, very un-wonderful year, artists from across the Lost Map Records roster have come together insofar as government guidelines and/or restraining orders permit to create a nine-track album of soul-warming seasonal and seasonally adjacent music to cheer us all into the long, dark, sh*tty winter. Opening with the bittersweet track ‘I Remember Xmas’ by Happy Clarinetty – AKA the woodwind wing of sad-synth-pop legends Happy Spendy, performing the 2020 reincarnation of a song which features twice more on the record in two different versions – Lost Map’s Xmas Card 2020 will be physically posted (with download code affixed) to anyone who subscribes to Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service during the month of December. Alternatively, order the Xmas card for a friend by giving a PostMap Club Gift Subscription.
The centrepiece song on the collection, ‘I Remember Xmas’ rises again (and again) like The Jesus™ himself in the form of a 2016 recording by cult ramshackle indieists Marble Gods – the band that was later born again as Happy Spendy – and also a full synth-tastic 2018 version by your actual Happy Spendy. Elsewhere A.R. Pinewood proves that even cyber-cowboys have hearts with the lovesick ‘Tis the Season’, a reflectively auto-tuned rendering of ‘Silent Night’ and an emosh message to Santa ‘This Year’. A popular Irish stout-fuelled seasonal supergroup featuring Martha Ffion, Romeo Taylor and members of Savage Mansion, Happy Spendy and Catholic Action, Friends of the Guinness™ hit sunshine harmonies in the snow on ‘Ciara’ and ‘Town for Tomorrow’. Bells a chimin’, Fell put the jangle in your jingle with the utterly joyous ‘Fear of Christmas’. Which is a really good name for a Christmas song actually because when you think about it Santa and his whole concept is f*cking terrifying, isn't it?
Elsewhere in the December PostMap Club SACK (we were going to make a balls joke here but that would clearly be below us) you'll find exclusive new music by Kinbote, Jenny Moore's Mystic Business and Sulka. YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING CRISIS SOLVED:
15% DISCOUNT ON MUSIC FROM THE LOST MAP SHOP
- JUST ENTER THE CODE YDVR6SL AT CHECKOUT
- VALID UNTIL MONDAY, DECEMBER 14
- SIMPLY ADD, TO CART
Much as we do always try to show respect to The Jesus™ around this time of the year, truth be told we worship only one religion here at Lost Map and that is of course the religion of cold hard cash music . Which is why, to mark our 15,000th transaction in the Lost Map webshop, we have decided to do a special 15% sale for you, our loyal customers, on all vinyl, CDs and cassettes in order to assist you in the noble cause of bringing the joy of music in to your life and/or that of a loved one this Christmas. And the joy of clothes – we also sell clothes (although they're not discounted, sorry). Clothes are just as important as music and indeed in some ways even more important. Can't enjoy music naked can you? Maybe you can, but we've never tried because our bodies are hideous and we never like to stay naked for any longer than is functionally necessary.
Let's start with the music, which as we say, is discounted. In 2020 we released a lot of really great new music, including but not limited to albums by Alabaster dePlume, Clémentine March, Savage Mansion, Happy Spendy, A.R. Pinewood, Undermedvetenheten and Kinbote – all of which are on sale now in one format or another. Apply your fat 15% off to, say, a dreamy sky blue 12" vinyl copy of Martha Ffion's Nights to Forget (full price £18), or Alexia Avina's Unearth on CDR or cassette (full price £12) and they'll cost you only – *counts on fingers, time passes* – well, less. Let's just say they'll cost you less.
Then there's the clothes, which as we say, are not discounted but anyway... Get the Lost Map look for 2021 – a year in which we feel confident that going outside is going to be coming RIGHT back into fashion – with one of our stylish Lost Map sweatshirts in emerald green or light grey (£28), or a short or long sleeve black Lost Map logo T-shirt (£12) or one of our signature Lost Map bobble hats in a range of exotic colours (£32). That's basically an entire above-the-waist outfit. We may expand our range below the waist in time but for now: please respect The Jesus™ and cover up responsibly.

JENNY MOORE IS DOING THE (MYSTIC) BUSINESS
Jenny Moore's Mystic Business isn't a real business, it's a rabble-rousing six-piece ensemble testament to the raw power and untamed joy of communal singing, featuring members of Bas Jan, Trash Kit, F*Choir and Bamboo as well as solo singer-songwriter Rubie. But if it was a real business then let's just say that it's share price would be STONKING IT right now, and as CEO, Jenny would be lying on a lounger on a tropical beach sipping champagne to a pan-pipes soundtrack, discussing with actor Denholm Elliott – he's dressed like The Man from Delmonte™ for some weird reason – whether or not to have the lobster or the cracked crab for lunch. "Looking good," she'd shout to the other members of the band, who are on a yacht. "Feeling good," they'd reply, before Jamie Lee Curtis blows them all a soft kiss.
But less about the end of Trading Places, and more about how JMMB are STONKING IT right now, following the release of their Lost Map debut single 'I Am Afraid' (available as part of December's PostMap Club bundle). Having been picked up straight away by BBC 6 Music's Steve Lamacq, it's been played on his show almost every single day since, as well by other 6 Music DJs including Lauren Laverne and Gideon Coe. Having been playlisted widely on Spotify, it's already notched up close to 12,000 streams. BEST OF ALL, there's a brand new righteously pyschedelic remix of the track just come out by friends of Lost Map the mighty Free Love.
We're not wealthy but in fact chronically skint and just the other day stole a roll of toilet paper from a pub toilet, but at times like this we feel RICH IN OUR HEARTS and that is surely the main thing.
