PICTISH TRAIL SUPPORTING PAVEMENT AT THE BARROWLANDS + NEW HEADLINE TOUR DATES
|
|
Some absolute slacker legends are coming to a venue near you soon and no we're not talking about Pictish Trail's limited-edition "loose fit" branded sweatpants (available at the merch desk £22). We're of course talking about the famous American indie-rock band Pavement, who have reformed again, and are making their way around Europe this autumn with dates including a show at the iconic Barrowlands Ballroom in Glasgow on Tuesday, October 18, with support from none other than our Pictish Trail. Is it because of his baggy trousers? Who can say. But he is very honoured and excited to be asked, and will be giving it his all, in part thanks to a liberatingly soft garment below the waist.
In other Pictish live news, he has announced a bunch more headline dates for the autumn including four shows as part of Ley Line – a quest for myth, magic, music and merriment around the ancient landscape of south-west England. Starting at The Cavern, Exeter on September 28 before continuing to Totnes, Plymouth and Penryn, it's presented by Weird Walk, a journal of wanderings and wonderings from the British Isles, in participation with Lost Map. Support at all four dates will come from our own Bas Jan plus a DJ set from Guto Pryce (of Super Furry Animals, and the Pictish Trail band). Seperately, Pictish has also announced two new headline shows in glamorous Sheffield (September 25) and Stroud (September 26). See below for a full list of Pictish Trail liveness and links to tickets.
Oh, and in case you missed it we just announced the full line-up for Howlin' Fling Presents: Pictish Trail's Island Family Gathering on Eigg. Ticketholders, check yr inboxes!

A pleasure-seeking synth-pop pearl in thrall to retro house and vintage Madonna, ‘Our Love’ is the thrilling brand-new single by Edinburgh duo Maranta. Released as part of the PostMap Club in June and available to stream and share on digital platforms now, it’s taken from the forthcoming Deux Pleasure EP, which will be released on September 30, 2022 on 12” vinyl and digital platforms. Maranta will play live around Scotland during the summer and autumn, at dates including an EP launch show at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh on Friday, October 7. See below for all their dates.
Maranta are vocalists, multi-instrumentalists, songwriters and producers Callum Govan and Gloria Black. They were brought together in 2018 through friendship, a love for melodic, leftfield pop and dance music and a mission to make visceral, textured and infectious songs easily translated to the dancefloor. "‘Our Love’ came quick to us, faster than most other songs we write,” says Callum. “Glo was obsessing over ‘I Felt Love’ by Blue Hawaii at the time, and wanted to write a pop tune like that. It was a lot of fun to mix as we had an end vision. Something like a chart hit from the 2000s, and some sort of 80s Madonna vibe. Full of sass and energy."

"Luxury Toiletries"? "Leather Trousers"? "Long Toboggan?" "Leather Toboggan?" "Luxury Trousers"? The list of what the enigmatic "L.T." might stand for in the artist nom de plume of our latest, exciting new Lost Map Records signing L.T. Leif is a limitless teaser ("Limitless Teaser"?) which we're determined to one day get to the bottom of somehow. Probably just by asking them tbh (probably should have done this already tbh). In the meantime, get acquainted with this v.v. talented songwriter and self-proclaimed "slow-felt swampwitch" – a hero of the Canadian DIY scene, currently based in Glasgow, Scotland – by listening to Leif's debut release for the label, 'Deep Bright' (b/w 'The Best' and 'Blue Hour'), as part of this month's PostMap Club. It's a taster of their forthcoming tape release Introducing, which will be out later this month, in association with our friends at OK Pal Records. Lovely tunes! ("Lovely Tunes"?). Have a listen to the aformentioned June Lost Map Podcast for more from Leif.
Also included in the June PostMap Club selection:
Maranta – 'Our Love' A brand new track from our above-mentioned Edinburgh synth-pop darlings. Fun fact: there was meant to be a remix in there too but the mixed-up remixer remixed the wrong track by mistake oooops.
Jenny Moore's Mystic Business – 'He Earns Enough' (Hiro Ama Remix) A summery remix of, in this instance, the correct track (phew), by electronic artist and Teleman drummer Hiro. Also includes a blissed-out piano ballad by Jenny Moore + co called 'Hotel Room'.
