LOST MAP AT THE SOCIAL THIS SATURDAY! A NIGHT OF ELECTRONIC DELIGHTS IN LONDON
It's another big one for Lost Map Records in 2024 as we celebrate our ELEVENTH Birthday ™ with a series of special events lasting the entire year which we quite simply will not stop going on about. Only kidding! Except, now we think about it, we will actually be doing a lot of special gigs throughout the year, which in all likelihood we will quite simply not stop going on about. So not kidding, in fact. Deadly serious. Probably there won't be an 11th anniversary T-shirt. But there will be more hats. There's always more hats.
Anyway, about Lost Map at The Social this Saturday, January 27, which is our first special gig of 2024, about which we will not stop (going on). This show is in the BIG city. No, not Fort William, even bigger. No not Bangor, but you're getting closer. Yes that's right LONDON™. In The Big London we are assembling a special triad of electronic artists from the Lost Map family, some from The London and some not (from London). The headliners are Makeness with their propulsive motorik rhythms, while support comes from the tropical synth-pop of Edinburgh’s Maranta, and the swaggering acid-house misbehaviours of SDF. Following their live sets, all three acts will join forces to DJ until late, like a giant frantic sex orgy except with DJing not sexing.
Join us in London, at The Social. Where, for avoidance of doubt, you don't have to be social. Stand in the corner and talk to no one if you like, we don't judge.

PRE-ORDER KINBOTE'S NEW ALBUM HEMISPHERE NOW
'Lowe Sunsmasher' – which, for avoidance of doubt, is not about actor and renowned s*xual bastard Rob Lowe – is the brand new single by Kinbote and let us tell you it's seriously 'kin good. A woozy headrush of thumping beats, fuzz bass and playful found-sound samples, it's released as part of Lost Map's PostMap Club subscription service in January as well as via streaming services. It finds Glasgow-based electronic producer Matt Gibb, for Kinbote is he, delving into *checks notes* ancient Greek epic poetry.
“I tried with this song to do a retelling of The Odyssey , but that was maybe a bit ambitious,” says Matt of ‘Lowe Sunsmasher’. “I ended up cutting it down a lot and now it’s more like a series of references to my favourite bits of the story. There are some fun samples in this one, like wind chimes and the sound of rain hitting a snare drum.”
This condensed electronic pop reworking of 7th century BC Athens' sickest new joint is taken from Kinbote's superb forthcoming album Hemisphere, which we're releasing on April 12, 2024 on streaming services and as a standalone limited-edition 'zine with digital download (with an option to purchase the 'zine with a CD copy in addition to the digital download). It's available to pre-order now. Inspired by all from Marc Levinson’s book The Box to the esoteric electronica of artists such as Lusine, Vegyn and Baths, the deliriously dreamlike Hemisphere exists in much the same continuum as Kinbote's 2020 debut album Shifting Distance. Which is a clever way of saying "if you liked that, you'll love this".

DECEMBER POSTMAP CLUB
FEAT. SUSAN BEAR
Susan Bear – who, for avoidance of doubt, is not a bear – is back with a happy banger for sad people ☹️ harnessing some properly retro music tech. “I made this using an Atari ST520, Tr-808s, Op1 and a Casio SK-5 sampling keyboard,” says Suse, about gleeful three-minute bit-crunching vintage computer rave ‘Shake (Say Yes)’, which is released as part of the PostMap Club in January and on streaming now. “Okay fine, I also used Ableton Live," she adds.
"I was feeling very ‘happy’ for one particular week during summer 2023," Suse continues. "I usually make music that isn’t very fun, but I wanted to make something fun, and also to get off my computer. So, I got onto another, much older computer to make this. I think it sounds pretty mad, but I like it. It’s about saying YES to life. My life is better when I say yes to stuff.” Think of it kind of like a belated antidote to Zammo and the Grange Hil Cast's 1986 straight-edge dirge 'Just Say No' (just say yes kids, especially to drugs).
‘Shake (Say Yes)’ follows the release of Suse's also electro-leaning single ‘It’s You’ last year. Like that song, it may or may not feature on a brand new album that could be forthcoming in 2024. But we couldn't possibly say right now. Not because it's a secret or anything, just because our memory's not what it used to be (drugs), and we're too lazy to read the emails again.
