OUT NOW: CURTIS MILES' DEBUT ALBUM
WHAT COULD'VE BECOME OF
What do Neil Young, the video game Grand Theft Auto and bread (of delicious sandwiches fame) all have in common? The brand new debut album What Could've Become Of by Curtis Miles, of course . Switched on to country music at a young age by his dad obsessively playing ol' Shakey's song 'Cinammon Girl' around the house, Cornwall-raised Curt went on to further develop his passion for the twangin' sounds of the American south and west while sitting about smoking joints with his mates, stealing cars in GTA V, all the while listening to the in-game station Rebel Radio and artists such as Charlie Feathers and The Highwaymen. He later got into punk and moved to Glasgow, where he joined the riotous party band Kaputt (of which he remains a member). But he never forgot his rootsy roots, to which he now returns on janglin' heartbreakers such as 'European Muse' and 'Easy Street'.
Curt's feelings towards bread (he is a fourth generation baker by trade) are a bit more mixed, but he's a pro who never beats sh*t out of his loaves even when he's having a bad day, as evidenced by catering-based rager 'Something & Nothing'. You can have a listen to the full record right now this minute, still warm out of the oven, or even buy it on super limited-edition CD (with download code). An interview with Curtis Miles, about all of the above and more, will feature in February's edition of the Lost Map Podcast. He'll launch What Could've Become Of with a show at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow on Thursday, February 6, tickets for which are on sale now. BYOB (bring your own buns).

COMING SOON: PAINTING'S BRAND NEW ALBUM
SNAPSHOT OF PURE ATTENTION
Late last year we brought you a reissue of the explosive 2022 debut album by fast-rising Berlin trio Painting. We then welcomed the band to the UK in December for their first shows over here, where they won hearts and minds with their wildly eclectic sound and interesting dance moves. No sooner is that all over than we can announce Snapshot Of Pure Attention, the incredible second album by Painting. A breathlessly unpredictable collision of punk energy, math-rock time signatures, techno beats, free-jazz sax solos, blaring synthesisers and tumbling call-and-response vocals, set for released in April 2025 on limited-edition 12” vinyl and via digital services, jointly by Lost Map and Berlin label Sinnbus.
The first single from the album, 'AI, Absolutely!' will drop this Friday, January 24 – we'll be sharing it on Lost Map socials so keep a look out. The song introduces one of the dominant themes on the record – artificial intelligence, human reactions to these technologies, and their meaning for society. “Instead of using AI to make music with us,” explains Painting's Therese Stroetges, “we are more interested in embodying perceived feelings and thoughts of an artificial sentient intelligence with our bodies and voices in order to explore the similarities and differences to basic human emotions."
We just asked AI to create us an image of Cheryl Baker on the set of Saturday morning late 80s/early 90s children's BBC music and cookery TV show Eggs’n’Baker, absolutely rocking out to music of the futuristic German avant-garde trio Painting. Scroll all the way to the bottom of this email now for a surprise.

DECEMBER POSTMAP CLUB
FEAT. FIRESTATIONS AND SEAMUS FOGARTY
Only fragments of information have reached us so far about Firestations' mysterious forthcoming new music on Lost Map Records, but consider our interest piqued. Something about sailing on a yacht, a doomed piano, the science-fiction writing of Ursula K Le Guin, and the band being shipwrecked on a deserted island, forcing singer Mike to eat all the other members. Okay fine, we made the last bit up, but all the other stuff is true facts teaser content as to Firestations' absolutely lovely as f*ck new stripped-back record, more details on the release of which will be announced soon. In the meantime, enjoy the first single, the warmly enchanting 'A Weight Starts To Lift', released as part of this month's PostMap Club subscription service (streaming next week).
Still furious after all these years about leaving his favourite yellow T-shirt up one of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks circa 2010, it's Seamus Fogarty (pictured above, in his younger days, with a bear – please note that this image is not AI created). County Kerry's finest is revisiting his magnificent debut album God Damn You Mountain over coming months. As one of the first records ever released on Lost Map all the way back in 2013, it has always had a special place in our hearts – a delightful, strange and hypnagogic fever dream of alt-folk, country, blues and electronica, laced with ghostly field recordings and found sounds. So, we're excited to be giving it a long overdue reissue this March, on limited edition “yellow T-shirt” vinyl. More details and pre-order link to follow; for now, PostMap Club members can enjoy two unreleased live tracks: an archive recording of ‘The Question’ and a fresh take on ‘The Evening Lay Down Upon Us’.
